Comedy Night at The Relais
The world’s most comfortable comedy club returns to The Relais Henley with a preview-of-a-preview-of-a-work-in-progress (PPWIP) from comedy icon Arthur Smith and rising star Pravanya Pillay direct(ish) from Edinburgh.
Arthur Smith’s comedy career began in 1977, the year that gave us Star Wars and the Queen’s silver jubilee. Not sure about the latter two but Arthur is still going strong, from An Evening with Gary Lineker and Loose Ends to Grumpy Old Men and five decades of Edinburgh shows. Only this summer he’s not there, he’s in Balham and - for one night only - Henley. He explains: “Since I am not actually going to Edinburgh til 2024 this show will be an anarchic journey around lots of different ideas and possible titles, including ‘A weekend in Paris’, ‘Falling asleep with Arthur Smith’, ‘Why ears look stupid'‘ How to fart the songs of Elvis’, ‘A brief history of socks’ ‘Hitler’s biscuit’ and “Etc etc etc.” Do come along and help me through the blizzard of maybe laughs.”
Pravanya Pillay is a stand-up comedian and writer. Pravanya delivers surreal, observational comedy from a unique perspective. She is like if Diana, Princess of Wales, did comedy. She’s a 2023 Chortle Award Best Newcomer Nominee, 2022 Funny Women “One To Watch” and placed joint third in So You Think You’re Funny 2022
